The many issues related to traffic in Needham can be overwhelming and frustrating, but let’s celebrate as piece by piece we achieve our goals. Today, September 16th at 8am we celebrated the recent opening of the Kendrick Street Bridge and I-95 connecting ramps with MassDot Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack and Highway Administrator Thomas Tinlin. The celebration took place at the PTC garage roof top.
- A new series of ramps will allow drivers traveling northbound on I-97 to exit onto Kendrick Street, and head eastbound into the Corridor.
- Drivers on Kendrick Street will also now be able to enter directly onto the 1-95 ramp southbound. Drivers traveling eastbound towards Newton will now have additional lanes across the Kendrick Street Bridge, and be able to access I-95 southbound towards Dedham.
- Motorists traveling westbound towards Needham from the Newton area will now have one lane across Kendrick Street Bridge and be able to enter I-95 from a signaled, double left turn lane.
- By the end of 2018, the Add-a-Lane project aims to reduce congestion on the I-95 by creating a smoother pathway for drivers entering and exiting the highway.
I extend my sincere thanks to MassDOT, the Federal and State Legislators, the Town of Needham, the Needham Business Association, the Needham Newton Chamber of Commerce and all stakeholders for helping to facilitate these changes!
