In the coming week, MassDOT Highway Division will be posting advisory signage at various locations throughout the state that advises motorists/commuters to operate at 45 m.p.h. As an example motorists will see this signage at the “Add-A-Lane” project on I-95 in the areas from Needham – Wellesley and on I-95 in the areas of Lexington-Burlington where a permanent median barrier is to be installed. This initiative is being done to ensure that drivers and maintenance/construction crews recognize the importance of work zone safety and cautious vehicular operation.
The 45 m.p.h. advisory speed limit signs will appear on orange signage to advise motorists of the suggested speed limit through the work zone. Commuters and workers are asked to exercise maximum discretion while work is ongoing so drivers can reach their destinations safely and workers can return to their families at the end of the day.
